After completing her Ph.D. in Olivier Delattre’s team at the Curie Institute, Souhila Medjkane joined Richard Treisman’s laboratory at Cancer Research UK in London for her postdoctoral research. In 2008, she was appointed as Maître de conférences at the University Paris Diderot, within Jonathan Weitzman’s team, where she investigated the impact of cell signaling on reversible leukocyte transformation and the role of epigenetic modifications in cancer progression.

She obtained her HDR (Habilitation to Direct Research) in 2013 and was selected as a junior member of the Institut Universitaire de France (IUF) in 2015. Since 2019, Souhila has led her own group within Jonathan Weitzman’s laboratory at the Center for Epigenetics and Cell Fate, Université Paris Cité. Her research has expanded into the emerging field of non-histone methylation, exploring how this critical post-translational modification contributes to cancer development.

Promoted to Associate Professor in 2019 and to full Professor in 2025, she is now co-director of the Master’s program in Genetics and co-director of the Graduate School EUR G.E.N.E at Université Paris Cité.
